Had a good weekend of tinkering over labor day. Was able to knock out some minor odds and ends in preparation for some bigger work. We hit the brake ducts with some overspray, so I pulled them and got them black again. Mounted all the brake calipers back on the car. I will need to fab up lines down to the front calipers. Val helped me mount the dual master cylinder setup for the brakes. One will run the front …

Pulled this car out of storage this last week and we started getting ready for the upcoming HPDE event at Hallett. We weighed at last event and still need to get out about 70lbs of weight to be around the class minimum, so we got started 🙂 70lbs is pretty easy when there is still a heater core, some sound deadening, carpet, etc in the car. Out comes the dash and rest of the carpet, etc. And then the blower …

This has been sitting at the house for some time now, finally brought it to the shop and put it to work 🙂 Gone are the days of wasting cut off wheels and grinding 🙂 Instead, we just plasma cut. Back in the old days, crude metal work cutting was done with an acetylene torch, and is a little hard to cut through more delicate areas. While torches are still used on really heavy stuff today, when a little more …

Had this Boxster come in last week for a weird instrument cluster issue and to install/activate the cluster’s on board computer, allowing the driver to see miles to empty, average mpg, temperature, and speed limit. While all cars had this function in the DME, some did not come with the control stalk or with it activated, so while it was there, you couldn’t see it or use it. So we took care of that 🙂 The cluster had quit working …

Gosh, I have got so many pictures of projects to blog about and no time 🙁 Hopefully I can get caught up soon. The last month or so we have been slammed with a few races and a lot of maintenance projects. A few long term projects are heading out the door to make way for future winter projects that take a little time. Have a cool 928GTS coming in next week for some big mods, so be ready for …

Finally made some progress on the Dragon. Well, I didn’t really make progress other than towing it here and there, but progress was made! Over the past few months we have been sanding and taping and peeling and painting, only to change course completely and go a different route. Rollbar and dash were painted, and I wanted a lighter interior. Not digging the red seats, so I have gone a different route there as well, lol. Got the hood pins …

A few things needed for our project have arrived, so I was able to make pretty decent progress on it this week. The fuel pump was noisy when hot, so I replaced that with a new bosch pump. Not uncommon for these old pumps to get noisy with heat, so a good preventative measure before it locked up on us. Then something fun 🙂 Aero mirror conversion. The kit comes with about a bazillion little pieces to assemble. The main …

Had a little work to do on this 993 before sending it out the door to Connecticut. Typical of 993’s with any kind of mileage, the suspension was pretty well worn out. The owner shipped a bunch of product in to me, and I got to work. He decided to go with the european setup of B6 bilsteins coupled with M033’s, larger sway bars, and a set of used Fabspeed mufflers. Up and ready to get to work. The new …

Have this neat 928 in the shop right now for some repairs before it finds a new home. A pretty cool car, S4 with sunroof delete, 5 speed manual, and sport seats. First up was an oil and filter change. And some general maintenance checks. Typical of a 928, they are a breeding nest for rodents. Wes sucked down and charged the A/C with R12. A very slow leak over the years had run it low on freon. Then it …

After we got the truck out of the way, I tackled this 964. The steering had a “catch” in it when turning. The rack on the 964 can become pitted and not operate smoothly, causing this catch. The solution is a re manufactured rack. Body panel removed, and the rack stuck up behind the front diff. The fluid in this thing was disgusting. Not sure what it was, but out it came and the system was flushed. And after a …
