Had this nice little 560SEC come into the shop today for a few issues. A strong smell of fuel at random times, a clunking rear suspension, and a wiggy instrument cluster are among the issues currently. Once I popped the hood, I found a leaking cold start valve gasket, but I knew if I dug deeper, I would find bigger issues 😉 Leaking EHA valve. This is very common these old MB’s. I could actually physically watch the fuel drip …

Had this little guy waiting in line to come in, so once we knocked a few projects on their head, we had room to get it in. It’s a barn find that hasn’t run in quite some time. The car originally was at another shop who tried to resurrect it, but they couldn’t get it quite right, so it came down to us for the work. One thing we have learned in the dozens of these cars we have brought …

Had a little Audi work the other day. Doing a job for some of old man Kaspar’s friends. This is a really nice 01 Allroad. These are bad ass little (ok, its a station wagon, she isn’t little) car. You can get some big hp out of these cars, and tear up the streets with a serious grocery getter. mmm v6 twin turbo power. To change the belt, the car needs to be put into service position. Front bumper removed. …

Had an early meeting at the shop this morning to get the 993 loaded up and headed across country. Off to the east coast she goes! I always love seeing what comes through! Meh 4.0 GT3 Seen it before Cooool! And original 68 IIRC. Very nice car 🙂 This is another SWEET car. Another 68 I believe. Coming out of Oklahoma City from Classic Recreations. They start with an old tub, and completely build the cars up to new spec. …

Had the old 965 in the other day for an oil leak. Damn thing doesn’t get driven enough, and so it sits up on the owner’s lift and pouts! As it should! Leak was coming from the turbo scavenge pump area, which isn’t uncommon to leak in that area. There are a couple of things that can leak, including the rear cam seal, but this turned out to just be the upper line leaking due to a loose connection. I …

Parts arrived this morning! With the new clutch kit (what I call our stage 2.5/gt2 kit), I was able to start putting this puppy back together 🙂 New main shaft seal installed. Note. In the picture can see where the clutch shaft inserts and runs across to the driver side where it sits in a needle bearing assembly. Make sure to dab just a touch of grease in there, and make sure ALL the needle bearings are sitting where they …

Normally I don’t give away all my secrets, but my good friend Lin has been putting off changing the clutch in his 997TT for a couple years now. He let our friend Steve drive it on one of our Journeys to find the 67 caddy for our Grand Canyon trip (http://vintageroadtrip2010.wordpress.com/), and well the rest (the clutch) is history. I figured he was putting off the work because he doesn’t have directions…..I mean he built a big garage and put …

Something I have been tinkering with for awhile now. My grandpa Wilen’s old tool box. Another thing that has been hauled around for years without much love, lol. There really isn’t anything special about this box, I just thought it would be neat to clean it up a bit. Years on the farm and in various garages had it looking pretty rough. It was surface rusted pretty badly, but for the most part was still fairly solid. I’m not even …

When the supercharged C4 came in for a new belt and waterpump, the clutch pedal was occasionally sticking and the clutch was slipping. We put it off for awhile, but now the owner is ready to take care of it. I could tell immediately something was wrong in the rotating assembly, even though the owner didn’t want to believe it. I quickly shot down his slave cylinder theory as when a slave or master cylinder fails, the clutch pedal typically …

Tires arrived for the Valdez today, so I got them mounted and balanced! Off to alignment at the next opportunity, then she heads out the door! A fresh set of Summitomo HTRZIII’s
