Cold weather sucks….that is all.

Got the replacement jumper line in today and was able to get it installed and send this project home! Installed and leak free!

Knocked out the rest of the Audi job. Everything went together smoothly with no surprises. New OEM pan ready for install. Using Audi/VW sealant for the pan gasket, I slide it into place and started to torque it down. Once the pan was torqued, it was time to raise the subframe and lower the engine. Jiffy lube oil filter…..was not the right size, lol. Replaced the filter with the correct one. And ready to leave!

Audi A4 Oil Pan

Had a freind call me up this weekend with a bit of an emergency. He had taken the car to the shop for an inspection, and had them change the oil. Turns out they couldn’t get the plug out of the pan! After fighting with it for awhile, he gave up and towed it over. Hillarity ensued as we tried to push a dead car up the driveway and into the garage, partially using man power and partially using a …

951 Mods Continued

Weather has really killed our progress on the 951 project! Atlanta got hit with a huge snow storm which slowed down our MAF shipment, and then we have been getting nailed with snow over the last few weeks as well, which means no road testing 🙁 I thought we had the car ready to leave the other day, when we discovered a fuel leak at the jumper line to the damper (Porsche recalled this line on all 951’s, but it …

Well, I dropped the ball on taking pictures on this project as we were trying to knock it out as quick as possible. Rich brought the beast over this morning so we could do the work on the lift. I believe this is the reason he wussed out on getting to Renntreffen in time, because his coolant exited the engine quite rapidly one day. Unfortunately, the radiator was on backorder for about 3 months, but we finally got it and …

The 993TT project gave me the excuse to finally modify the lift for droping engines. I was really nervous about cutting out part of the lift, but it worked out beautifully. The rear most bar blocks the transaxle from dropping down (engine and transaxle are lowered as as unit for certain repairs such as a clutch job), so I needed to remove that. Many 911 owners who have the bendpak have said that this bar is not necessary anyway for …

Sunday Stephen and I tackled a clutch job that he needed to get done for a mutual freind. His initial plan was to do it on jackstands, and when he asked me to help, I just laughed at him. After the last fiasco of trying to bench press a tranny into a 996, I wasn’t going to fall for that again (you know the saying, “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice….oh hell, nobody fools me twice”). Instead, …

I’ve been slacking. Actually, I have been trying to cure myself of a typing error of many years. It appears that you are no longer to put 2 spaces after a period anymore due to the advances in computers, lol. I’ve hit that spacebar twice for the last 20 years or so. Not sure if I will be able to break the habit, but i’ll try. In the December 2010 issue of Excellence magazine, there was a great article about …

Helped a freind out with an emergency on Friday afternoon. Turns out his boxster started smoking excessively out the tailpipe. On most cars you would fear the worst that maybe a headgasket was blown, but the M96 engines use an oil air seperator that can go bad and allow oil vapor back into the intake stream, where it is burned off in the cylinders and causes the smoke. Pearing up over the passenger axle, you can see the OAS attached …
