Awhile back I had written a post about window drop issues in the boxster/996. A few weeks ago I had a Boxster come in for an oil change, and a window that was not functioning properly. The driver window would not drop at all, from the inside door handle, or the outside door handle. To me, this said that the microswitch on the latch mechanism always thought the door was closed. So I ordered a new latch. Today I knocked …

993TT PPI

I recently did a Pre Purchase Inspection for a local car the other day. Last time I did a PPI for this seller (on a previous 993TT that he owned), I swore I would raise my prices as the leakdown and compression tests take a long time on the turbo cars, lol…..of course I forgot about that until after I had set up the PPI. Oh well 🙂 A beautiful example of a 993TT. A PPI consists of a full …

On To The 951

After I put the pressure tester on the coolant system I was able to locate our coolant leak. Pretty common for the front port on the waterpump to start leaking from the oring. When I glanced down there, I knew I was in for a treat, lol. First, up on the lift and ready to go: First thing I noticed was the passenger side sway bar bushing was blown apart. Pretty common area for oil leaks to drip off of, …

951 Work

Last night a beautiful 951 came in for some service. Sadly, it isn’t driven much, but the car is in great shape. We are going to go through a few maintenance items on it (oil change, spark plugs, sway bar bushing, coolant oring, etc), install a Vitesse Racing k26/6 tuning chip, and a manual boost controller once everything is sorted out. Stay tuned.

St Louis Trip

This last weekend Jim, Jessi, Val and I headed to St Louis with the M3 and the S2 Cab to meet up with some good friends we have living there, and see the city! Friday evening we headed for St Louis, met some other friends for supper in Columbia, MO, then high tailed it to St Louis down the I-70 speedway 🙂 Saturday morning, we got up and headed to the Arch! That is one big arch! From the top …

968 Fuel Stumble

Apr 05 2011 porschedoc 968 No Comments

Symptoms: 1. Fuel gauge that would randomly read different values, so you never knew how much gas was in the tank 2. Hesitation would appear after filling the car with gas. 3. Fuel smell 4. Lot of pressure released when opening the gas cap. Last fall we had torn into the fuel system due to a hesitation it was having after filling up with gas. Aaron had also noticed that the tank let off a lot of pressure when opening …

Got the parts in today for this car, so I went ahead and swapped them out while I am waiting for the headlight washer nozzles to show up. Stuck back in the corner is the filter and accumulator. Accumulator out and going after the filter. Once I got the accumulator out, I realized why the bottom line was so hard to get on. Not sure how the heck you smash the fitting on an accumulator, but someone made it possible! …

Aaron brought by his 968 last night to have me go through the speedometer cluster. The 944/968/911’s are notorious for the plastic odometer gears breaking, and thus the miles stop accumulating as you drive 😉 Aaron of course brought this in immediately when it broke 🙂 How do they break? Well over time, the plastic can get brittle and just flat fall apart, but the #1 cause is from people hitting the odometer/trip reset button while the car is moving. …

83 911 SC

Mike dropped off his nice 83 SC for some work yesterday. He is having restart problems when the engine is hot, which is likely the fuel accumulator. If the car will always start cold, but has to sit for awhile after being driven before it will start, the accumulator is almost always the culprit. I recommend doing the accumulator and filter together, and since you have the fuel system depressurized, I always do the check valve at the fuel pump …

Ok, the floor epoxy has cured for 10 days, so the fun is over and back to work! We brought back the hail with us from Wyoming. Looks like we will probably be getting a new roof and new window screens. I have a few dings in the truck that I will have pdr’d, but nothing major to the vehicles (that was the only one sitting out). I need a bigger garage. About a 40×60 would be perfect. High winds …
