Remember this project? I sort of do, lol. I am finally getting caught up on some things at the shop. With temps in the shop about 100 degrees this week, it has been tough, but it was a good week for overall progress on a bunch of cars. After fighting the back dated lines for a few days, I gave up and ordered a line from B&B, along with their wastegate dump pipe. I have learned a lot of installing …

This ongoing project is…well….on going 🙂 While I am on the eternal wait for parts for other projects, I took the time to get started on the interior of this car. We are tackling some of it, and an interior shop is tackling the seat recover and carpet, etc. First thing was to finish up the rear end though. We got in new taillights, so I tackled that install first. The sealant used is Butyl tape for bonding the lights …

I know I know. We are so backed up right now, my blogging has come to a halt for the time being. Right now it is cool in the office and about 100 degrees in the shop, so at least I can get something productive done while staying cool 🙂 Last week in between prepping chump cars and other odds and ends, we finished up the Boxster motor swap. With the used motor we were putting in, we went ahead …

Had this little 964 come in with a little problem. A sad face 🙁 A pretty common problem caused by pulling into parking spots too far and hitting the curb. So I started pulling it apart to repair the front grill. This one had hit hard enough to bend the mounting points up, so those needed to be pulled back down. Special Tool KEWP293.a After a bit of work, the mounts started to pull down. And we had a happy …

Had this little Audi TT come in the other day with a running issue (bad stumble) and a misfire check engine light. The owner had diagnosed the misfire and put in a couple new coil packs with spark plugs, but there was no change. A lot of times these Audi’s can have issues with low voltage, so I put the charger on the battery to see if anything changed, but the battery was in good shape. I did find a …

Had this 2.7L Boxster come into the shop the other day on the tow truck. Engine started knocking, so the owner and a friend with some mechanical know how pulled the oil pan and apparently found chain tensioner material in the pan. This car had already had the LN bearing upgrade on the IMS, so we were confident that was not the issue. I thought tensioner pad material in the pan a bit intriguing, but they wanted to go ahead …

I’ll save you the carnage though, it isn’t a big failure that we see on the Boxster, but instead a fairly minor one. This problem is also seen on the 996 cabs as well. The Boxster came in with the complaint that the top was not opening. When there isn’t anything happening, typically the parking brake switch is bad. That was indeed the case. After pulling apart the center console, you can get to the switch. In our case, the …

Had this awesome GT2 come into the shop today for basic service. A good checkup and a fresh oil change and she was out the door ready for the summer! It’s hard to beat a morning of working on GT2’s and race cars! If you are a boost junkie, then this is about as good as it gets 🙂 This is where dreams are made. Hard to tell from the picture, but the GT2 door sills are illuminated. I didn’t …

This pepper came in today for it’s 40k service. Fairly basic, filters, spark plugs, oil change, and a good inspection and she was back on the road. Porsche has moved to changing plugs more often now in the newer cars, and they also go by an age or mileage interval. I love white peppers 🙂 I would destroy a tan interior though 🙁 The little v6, but a DFI motor 🙂 Spark plugs are right out in the open, though …

Put the little 944 back in the air today as the new exhaust showed up from Billy Boat for it! I love these exhausts on 944’s. They only make a cat back section, but it is a great sounding unit if you don’t want to mess with going to a full exhaust. From the rear 😉 While it was in the air, I dropped the suspension another 1/2″ to better accommodate the 15″ fuchs. I think the car came out …
