Had this low mileage 997TT come in the other day for an oil change and a new set of tires. The rear tires were pretty well shot by 10k miles, so it was time to get some new rubber on the rims! Pretty basic oil change, nothing to see here 😉

Yup, we dabble in Mercedes work as well 😉 This one came through for a quick oil change and inspection going into the winter months. Pretty straight forward with no surprises. Some fresh mobil 1 and filter, a top off of all the fluids, and we sent this one on it’s way.

Well with the roofers blocking access to the garage, I needed to knock out a little 996 work. A simple oil change, resetting an airbag light, and finding a faulty brake pad sensor were on the list: Redneck oil change 🙂 And then it was on to find the bad sensor. Of course it couldn’t be obvious, and of course it couldn’t be the any of the first 3 wheels I tried. It had to be the last one. Turns …

Knocked this car out tonight. Simple oil change and inspection was due. Mmmm pretty. After removing the oil filter housing, there are 2 o-rings to replace along with the filter. When you pull the filter, you will want to suck out the remaining dirty oil. And to drain the oil, underneath a trap door, is the 17mm oil drain plug. Drain the oil, replace the copper drain ring, and fill with some fresh BMW longlife 5w-30 🙂 Weeeeeeeeee!

Following along with oil change day, since this afternoon was so nice, I decided I had better get caught up on my own vehicles! I started off with the tow monster (MiniMoo) and got the oil changed first. While she fits on the lift no problem, it really isn’t needed for the oil change. I just pulled it in to get out of that south wind we had blowing like crazy. Simple drain, filter, and 6 quarts of new oil. …

Made a quick stop last weekend to help out a good freind with a 996TT. Actually I just used it as an excuse to see the track kids Lance and Sandy 🙂 The car hadn’t moved in awhile and the battery was stone cold dead. After trying to recover it on a battery charger, I gave in and went and got a new battery. Figured it would be best to have something new in that she didn’t have to mess …

996 Maintenance

Had a freind bring by his 996 for some winter maintenance. This was actually the Evolution motorsports prototype car for their supercharger kit they developed with VF Engineering. First thing to do was to replace the ignition switch. The 996 and boxster are notorious for having bad ignition switches. It can rear it’s head in many different ways. 1. Key switch that is difficult to turn or seems to hang up 2. Key that rotates way more than it should …

Did an oil change and inspection on this beautiful 530i today. Oil change went as planned, though the oil had 10k miles on it and was extremely black. I am personally not a fan of these 10-15k mile oil change intervals that most companies have gone to. The oil is coming out darker and thicker than it should, and I think there will be a lot of higher mileage issues in the future with these cars that stick to every …

It was service time, so up on ramps she goes. Castrol TWS oil. Porsche guys think your mobil 1 is expensive? You have no idea. After draining the oil out the bottom, the filter was next. On the bolt holding the cap on, there is an o ring to replace, as well as a aluminum seal ring Since the filter housing is right there and upright, you can add almost a quart of oil to the housing/filter to reduce oil …

Mobile service calls again.  Had to get the car ready for MAM this Friday. Started by changing the oil….. Unfortunately, when I got underneath the car, this is what I found.  Dried coolant everywhere. The culprit.  A loose hose clamp under the intake manifold.  It was so loose, that either it was not tightened from the factory, or someone else had been in the motor in the first 3k miles of it’s life.  The hose is stuck between two pipes, …
