And now for something a little unusual

Something you don’t see every day anymore. A 1 owner, 12k mile 1986 944 turbo. She started having fits after sitting for a number of years, so time to go through it and see what we can figure out. Another shop went through the timing belt and such, and now we have a no start. I know, I was thinking the same thing, but looks like the T-belt is ok 😉

She’s a beut Clark…..The tow truck driver dumped it in to the garage…..pretty much in the middle of it. Well that wasn’t going to work as I couldn’t get a car on the lift. So I pushed it out to move it over. Of course then I had to con my good friends to come over and help me push it back in the garage in a more ideal location. I con’d them with beer…..but come to think of it, then I forgot to offer it to them. Suckers, lol.

For those of you in KC that have been around Porsches since the dawn of the dinosaurs, you know this name 🙂 Bought new here.

What a 12k mile engine bay looks like (minus the uh tin foil……i’ll be taking care of that).

Cleaning up after people. Next route for this bolt was through the turbo.

Yup….

So after scratching my head on the usual suspects in regards to the no start, I finally arrived at the DME. The car had no tach bounce, so you immediately start suspecting DME relay, Reference Sensors…..and then DME.

I pulled the plug off the dme and plugged in one of my spare dme’s and she fired right up.

It has a bit of an exhaust leak. I haven’t seen a set of non updated headers actually installed on a car in a long time. Porsche later updated the 1/4 header with a flexible bellows to keep the headers from cracking…..that only worked so well.

And once I got it fired up, over on to the lift she goes. Stay tuned.

Very nice indeed, but 488 miles per year average? [I realize it sat for some years] Does the owner keep it in a plastic bag? The 944 is not exactly Barrett-Jackson material, so hopefully the owner is now motivated to get out and DRIVE that rascal!!

I agree that it should have been driven more, but a low mileage 944T is somewhat rare. This car would easily bring near 20k, which is more than a lot of 996’s, lol.

12,000 miles. Sounds awesome, but could also be a nightmare.
