On To The 951

After I put the pressure tester on the coolant system I was able to locate our coolant leak. Pretty common for the front port on the waterpump to start leaking from the oring. When I glanced down there, I knew I was in for a treat, lol. First, up on the lift and ready to go: First thing I noticed was the passenger side sway bar bushing was blown apart. Pretty common area for oil leaks to drip off of, …

951 Work

Last night a beautiful 951 came in for some service. Sadly, it isn’t driven much, but the car is in great shape. We are going to go through a few maintenance items on it (oil change, spark plugs, sway bar bushing, coolant oring, etc), install a Vitesse Racing k26/6 tuning chip, and a manual boost controller once everything is sorted out. Stay tuned.

Busy Week

The PCA club race and DE is coming up this coming weekend, so this week should be pretty busy. I was back from St Louis no sooner than 15 minutes before the first car showed up for service. 2 hours later, I had 3 sitting here, lol. Back for an oil change, set the boost controller, and a boost gauge. Boost controller hidden down under the glove box out of the reach of the driver….for a reason, lol. Up in …

Got the replacement jumper line in today and was able to get it installed and send this project home! Installed and leak free!

951 Mods Continued

Weather has really killed our progress on the 951 project! Atlanta got hit with a huge snow storm which slowed down our MAF shipment, and then we have been getting nailed with snow over the last few weeks as well, which means no road testing 🙁 I thought we had the car ready to leave the other day, when we discovered a fuel leak at the jumper line to the damper (Porsche recalled this line on all 951’s, but it …

Finished up the turbo swap in the 951 the other day. Downpipe swapped on to the new turbo. Turbo installed. Then on went the piping and intake. Once that was done, I needed to pull the intercooler to clean any foreign debris out of that. Header panel removed to expose the intercooler. Peering in the one end, you can see some old crusty particles caked onto the surface. A trip to the power washer cleaned it right up. Intecooler out …

Been tinkering on this 86 951 that is in dire need of a new turbo and engine mounts. If I recall correctly, the owner found an old socket in the intake boot which chewed the turbo fins down to a pulp. Not good. So with a rebuilt turbo in hand and a set of engine mounts, it was time to tackle it. Covers on and ready to go to work. First thing to do was to pull the intake off …

Red 951’s are multiplying 🙂 It seems that when you do projects, you end up doing them in….well 3’s. Another axle boot let go, spewing old grease everywhere on this 951. Must be axle boot month. Again, there must have gotten a little condensation in the joint as the grease was extremely runny. First thing to do was to locate a battery drain, which we tracked down to the alarm module. We pulled all that out since it wasn’t being …

More 951 Progress

Got back to the 951 after the holidays to finish up some items. I started by tearing apart the exhaust to upgrade to a Fabspeed 3″ full system, and Tial 38mm wastegate. When I crawled under the car, I realized the car, being an early 86 model, had the 1 piece crossover pipe….DOH! The wastegate doesn’t exactly fit with the one piece, so I went and got my 2 piece pipe to install in it’s place. This will also save …

It’s Alive :)

Decided with the weather getting cold that I had better get the dragon back together after the headgasket blew.  Drove out to the storage unit and picked it up (ran into a customer from IA that I had not seen in a long time, so I stopped to help him on the side of the road as well, lol) Got it home and up on the lift. Turns out one of the fans had died in the 100 degree heat …
