Finished up the turbo swap in the 951 the other day. Downpipe swapped on to the new turbo. Turbo installed. Then on went the piping and intake. Once that was done, I needed to pull the intercooler to clean any foreign debris out of that. Header panel removed to expose the intercooler. Peering in the one end, you can see some old crusty particles caked onto the surface. A trip to the power washer cleaned it right up. Intecooler out …

More 951 Progress

Got back to the 951 after the holidays to finish up some items. I started by tearing apart the exhaust to upgrade to a Fabspeed 3″ full system, and Tial 38mm wastegate. When I crawled under the car, I realized the car, being an early 86 model, had the 1 piece crossover pipe….DOH! The wastegate doesn’t exactly fit with the one piece, so I went and got my 2 piece pipe to install in it’s place. This will also save …

It’s Alive :)

Decided with the weather getting cold that I had better get the dragon back together after the headgasket blew.  Drove out to the storage unit and picked it up (ran into a customer from IA that I had not seen in a long time, so I stopped to help him on the side of the road as well, lol) Got it home and up on the lift. Turns out one of the fans had died in the 100 degree heat …

Finally had a few minutes this week to do a last minute repair on my front splitter for next weekend’s DE. I arrived at a gator about 12 inches too early at MAM a few weeks ago, dropped the front right wheel into a pothole, and the splitter caught the edge of the gator, breaking a piece off. The problem, is that the splitter is made of unobtanium, so I decided to do a quick repair to get me through …

So you have damaged the threads in something really important and you need to fix it.  What do you do?  Probably the number one answer you will get is to install a helicoil.  A helicoil is a spring like insert which you install in the hole which provides for new threads that the bolt can catch when installed.  In my honest opinion, the fix will last about as much as the helicoil costs….not long.  Helicoils are notorious for pulling out …

Started tearing into a 951 today with no real good previous records of maintenance, so a round of timing belt/waterpump was due. The shop supervisor sets up shop.  Oddly enough, management always is in the way when you are trying to get something done. The really cool part about this car……rare sunroof delete 🙂 The surgery. Waterpump replaced.  This car will get all new rollers, pump, and belts.  I can’t quite put my finger on the history of this car.  …

Finished up the RMS and Diff bearings a few nights ago.  Still need to knock out a wheel bearing on the right side and it should be ready to go.  I think the output shaft having play caused additional stress on the cv axle and bearing on that side as well due to the slight wobble the shaft must have had. New bearings installed, diff in place, and gearbox assembled. Outer diff cover installed. Selector shaft installed. Ahhh much better, …

Audi DE Inspection

Finished an inspection on a 951 last week getting ready to do the upcoming Audi DE event at Heartland park.  A quick brake bleed, inspection, and replacement of a few missing door check bolts, and it was ready to rock!
