The Return Of The Clutch Killer

Had this 2004 in the shop a few weeks ago due to a bad clutch, so we took the opportunity to go through the car (70k miles) and get everything up in tip top shape. Gotta laugh, but the owner’s son has killed two clutches in spectacular fashion with their cars, so now he has earned a nickname 😉 It’s all good, stuff happens, and with 70k on the clock, it was nearing replacement anyway. Since I knew we would …

Boxster 120k Service

Have this Boxster in this week for a 120k service, but these higher mileage services always seem to turn into a more extensive repair than expected. Probably not included in the dealer 120k service list, but at the major services every 60k, I like to drop the sump plate and inspect what is going on. This not only gives me a good idea of if the oil change intervals are where we want them (by the amount of staining/sludge in …

2.5L Refresh

A little project I have been working on in my spare time. We tore down a spare 2.5L engine we had and are refreshing it for a backup motor for the SPEC Boxster. This was a motor we ran for a season before pulling out of the car. Everything looked great in the engine, so we didn’t have to do any major surgery or component replacement such as an intermediate shaft. Crankshaft carrier receiving new bearings. And assembled with bank …

986S Chain Tensioner Pad Replacement

Oh boy, so many blogs to post, so little time! This was a project in the shop last week. A nice little Booster S with about 50k miles on the clock. Owner has already done the IMS bearing, but wanted to get the chain tensioner pads replaced as we are seeing them fall apart on a regular basis now She was pretty dirty and oil underneath from a few various oil leaks and a previous seeping IMS/RMS. And a leaking …

Some Laps @ COTA With SPEC Boxster 02
We had a good but wet weekend at the formula one track Circuit Of The americas in Austin last weekend. Had not been on this track before, but what an amazingly smooth track. A couple of laps off the Go Pro…. A little faster on Sunday.

Follow us on Facebook!

I tend to throw stuff up on Facebook at random as I can post pictures quickly from my phone. Still trying to figure out how to make the blog more efficient from a mobile device being the wordpress blog is embedded in the website, but I need to get together with someone smarter than me on that part! In the meantime, follow us on Facebook at RennsportKC (I’m still not smart enough to figure out how to link to the …

I’ve been slow about posting lately, mostly because I can one click pictures and brief descriptions from my phone to Facebook, then I forget about going back to do the same with the blog. Trying to figure out a quick way to do the same thing from phone to blog but having the blog integrated into the website has complicated things! More research needed 🙂 In the meantime let’s try a few pictures Finishing the cayman build here is a …

PTE Miata Head Gasket and Head Work

Our little PTE Miata that Aaron bought last year only made it a couple track days before it overheated severely and ended his season. With a supposedly fresh motor in it when purchased, I didn’t think we needed to go over it with a fine tooth comb, but that was a big mistake. The engine builder who put the motor together used thin vacuum caps to block off some coolant ports that were no longer needed. The problem is that …

CT70 #4 Finished

I didn’t take many pictures of the build as I went beyond the initial motor and frame, but she is together and ready to go home. The 88cc motor rips pretty good. Since this motor was seized up and not running when I went into it, I wasn’t sure how it would run. Couldn’t get it running for the longest time due to a couple issues. Always go back to your basics, and that usually leads back to the points …

1986 Targa Restoration Project Continues

I haven’t blogged about this car in awhile as it has been at paint, but this is our on going Targa Restoration project. I’ll have to look back and see what all I have blogged about it in the past and update with new pictures now that paint is done. But, I did get the motor installed, prepped, fired up, and broken in. Some nice DC20 cams give here a pretty good lope 🙂 Ok, I have given how to …
