Took some time last weekend to repair the leaking longitudinal slave cylinder on Valerie’s 964. It has had a slow leak for awhile now, occasionally the 4wd light would come on when driving, so it was time to tackle it. Parts have been here for awhile, just no time. The Longitudinal slave cylinder controls the amount of power to the front wheels from the transmission. They are quite expensive, but ninemeister IIRC, has finally sourced the seals to rebuild the …

Had this pair of Cayenne Turbos come in to swap hand controls around for the owner. Old one is getting traded in, and the new one, straight from the dealer, needs controls, so swap from the old to the new, and done! The hand controls allow the owner to operate the vehicle without the use of his legs. It is a very simple system, push on the hand control for brake, and twist the throttle like a motorcycle for the …

Had this little 996TT come into the shop this week for a P1109 code. The local dealer charged the owner $200 to diagnose it, telling him the code was a mass air flow sensor issue and due to the aftermarket EvoMS intake…they removed the sensor and cleaned it with no help. Recommendation was $1500 worth of OEM airbox and new maf sensor, not covered by the $4000 warranty that he bought with the car. The problem is…..a P1109 code is …

Had this 996 come into the shop yesterday after rubbing the sidewalls off his new 295 tires. Turns out the champion wheels and champion springs are a little too low for the wide rear tire. The issue is the underside of the fender lip protrudes at about a 90 degree angle, which can cut into a wider tire. Rolling the fender will take this inner lip, and roll it upwards away from the tire. The fender roller slowly applies increasing …

Saw something today that was a little baffling while changing the oil on this 964 C4. While I have pretty extensive knowledge with the C4 system, I have never seen someone block off the line to the longitudinal slave cylinder before. This slave cylinder controls the locking rate between the front and rear diffs, so I assume the front wheels aren’t powered any longer. The C4 pump is still in place and active, so it is a bit weird. Not …

Finished installing the engine and getting everything hooked up like it should be. Got the exhaust gaskets today, so I threw the heat exchangers in place (jet hot coated). It isn’t often I lose battles in regards to suggestion for upgrade items, but on occasion it happens. So in this case, instead of using SSI heat exchangers and a Dansk muffler, we have the OEM boat anchor heat exchangers along with RarelyL8’s pre muffler and muffler….errrr M&K’s, lol It will …

Had this 996TT come in on the hook this week for a no start issue. Pretty common issue in the 996TT’s….start, runs for a second or two like normal, then shuts off. While the fuel pumps are pretty hearty, the lines to the pump inside the tank are not. Pump is under the front bonnet. It is a octopus of hoses really. What happens is they will crack in various places, keeping the fuel pump from being able to pressurize …

Well, it happened. I ran out of 928 jokes. It is a bit of a sad day for me really. So while I sit and pout, here is some 928 content. This 928 came in for a very severe power steering leak. Turns out the rack was puking out both ends about as fast as you could dump fluid in. So we chose to upgrade to the 91+ power steering pump and line which has a higher pressure rating for …

Finally got the frame back from Probuilt. He had to cut the neck off the old frame and weld on a new section due to the damage. Then he cleaned everything up and got her painted black! In the meantime we found out the story of this old bike, and turns out it use to belong to a customer of mine from Imagine Auto. Small world! Frame on the stand and the rear swing arm attached. I updated the steering …

This is a problem we are seeing more and more these days with the DOT mandated TPMS sensors on all cars produced after 2008 IIRC. The government has decided that since some people can’t or won’t check the air in their tires anymore, that they should require sensors to be installed in all cars from the factory so it can tell you when a tire is low. The issue is that these are battery powered sensors in each tire, with …
