Odds and Ends

Random postings from around the shop. Over the last couple weeks, Wes has been busy playing with BMW M5 Vanos systems, Mustang Transmissions, and Cobra Engines! He doesn’t take many pictures because he loves working on these cars so much that he just can’t put down the wrenches for even a second! That’s dedication! In preparation for the club race at Hastings, we needed to add some weight to the 964 C4. We added a bunch back in by adding …

Had this 2005 Audi A6 come in the other day for some quick maintenance. Had a CEL on the dash as well as the 85k mile maintenance reminder due. The CEL suggested a dirty throttle body which is pretty common in these audi and vw’s. I removed it and got all the old oil and carbon cleaned up. Then it was on to replacing the rear brake pads. Since the car uses an electronic rear handbrake, you can’t just replace …

Installed a full Escort 9500ci radar/laser detector/shifter in this new RS4 this week. Ron had saved an old K40 out of his trade in, but thankfully only got half of the components of the the old unit removed, which meant it was easy for me to talk him into throwing that piece of junk away. K40 has a great dealer program….that’s why dealership’s sell them…..Enough said. Rear laser shifter mounted at the base of the rear plate. Normally I like …

Audi 4000 progress

Saturday Kris stopped by and we finished putting the rear lexan window in along with some support straps to reinforce it. Then we got the battery box/battery mounted up and secured. Pretty decent progress for the day.

Odds and Ends

Today I started gutting this 1987 951 to start it’s transformation into a track car. We aren’t going to go full boat crazy with this in regards to gutting it, because this track car will still drive to the events under it’s own power! So we will keep things like the radio, etc for those 4 hour trips. Full leather interior….bye bye. Seats out so I can get some of the sound deadening out under the carpet. This big heavy …

I finally pulled this car out onto a lift today and did some work. Like anything, when you shove something back in a corner, you sort of forget it is there! I’ve had the idea planned out for the fuel cell for awhile now, I just needed to put it together. We had decided on relative placement of the tank awhile back, so I started lining everything up. First hole is the hardest one to make. When you make that …

About a year ago we tossed a motor in this little Audi GT.  Lately it has been having intermittent running issues.  Two thing we found were a baked O2 sensor and broken insulator at the hall sensor. So pull the distributor and here we go: Broken hall: Now we go after the tiny litte C-clips and press the reluctor/sending ring off the distributor to get to this: Now with the new sensor in place: Ready to go back in.

Audi 4000 Quattro

Have a little project that we have been plugging away at for a few days now. This is a race car build that Kris has been knocking out over the last couple of years. He needed a few things done so he could move on to the next area of the car. 1. Fuel Cell: Trunk mounted 2. Closing the rear trunk area for a few seconds more fire protection in event of a crash 3. Gauge mounting 4. Switch …

Guess who stopped by tonight 🙂 Stephen rolled in with his Audi that is having some transmission hesitation. We decided it might not be a bad idea to get fresh fluid in and a new filter to see if that helps before going in deeper. Since I have the pumps and such to get the fluid in, it makes it easier to just do it here at the shop rather than on jack stands. Pan off and filter being removed. …

Knocking this puppy out for our painter’s son. It needed a new hall sensor, o2 sensor and spark plugs as it was having a running issue when hot. Spark plugs should be in tomorrow, and we will send this puppy home. Takes you right back to the 80’s 🙂
