Yup….electrical issues.  Joy.  There is nothing cheap about paying someone to diagnose an electrical issue.  I had a 944 come in today which the owner had just purchased.  It is a nice 60k mile, 1 owner car, but it has sat for the last 5 years.  The windows didn’t work, the blower motor didn’t work, the sunroof didn’t work, etc.  Another shop had diagnosed it as a bad ignition switch.  The problem, is that it is really rare for an …

So you have damaged the threads in something really important and you need to fix it.  What do you do?  Probably the number one answer you will get is to install a helicoil.  A helicoil is a spring like insert which you install in the hole which provides for new threads that the bolt can catch when installed.  In my honest opinion, the fix will last about as much as the helicoil costs….not long.  Helicoils are notorious for pulling out …

Recently I heard a rumor that a good friend of ours was too busy to fix his broken 951, so a group of buddies decided to pack up and show up on his door step to help him with his problem, lol.  The only issue, is he holds South Dakota residency 🙂  Friday night myself an a couple of buddies loaded up and took off on the 4 hour trip to SD. Saturday morning we were ready to go 🙂  …

Busy Weekend Again

After the Donkey left on Saturday, a few more rolled in.  I had some quick work to do on our 997TT project to get it ready for Hallett next Saturday. Then came in a 996TT (also headed to Hallett) for a clutch accumulator and a brake fluid flush.  I should take stock in 996TT clutch accumulators.  This will be the 3rd one this month. If you didn’t catch my update on the previous accumulator job, the bulb in the accumulator …

Started tearing into a 951 today with no real good previous records of maintenance, so a round of timing belt/waterpump was due. The shop supervisor sets up shop.  Oddly enough, management always is in the way when you are trying to get something done. The really cool part about this car……rare sunroof delete 🙂 The surgery. Waterpump replaced.  This car will get all new rollers, pump, and belts.  I can’t quite put my finger on the history of this car.  …

Finished up the RMS and Diff bearings a few nights ago.  Still need to knock out a wheel bearing on the right side and it should be ready to go.  I think the output shaft having play caused additional stress on the cv axle and bearing on that side as well due to the slight wobble the shaft must have had. New bearings installed, diff in place, and gearbox assembled. Outer diff cover installed. Selector shaft installed. Ahhh much better, …

Needed to take care of a couple of nagging issues on the Dragon before she finds a new home, and I had a couple spare hours this morning, so I decided to tear it apart spur of the moment.  One was a tiny weep from the rear main seal that has been bugging me for a few months.  On occasion you will get a bad RMS from the supplier and it will leak, which is the case here.  It wasn’t …

If you have a shifter that feels really sloppy in your 944, it is probably because the shift pin is worn out.  Generally this is an easy fix, pop in a new shift lever and usually it takes care of it.  On occasion though, the actual shift rod will wallow out, which is a little bigger issue. I have been doing some maintenance to the dragon to get it ready to sell, and one thing I have always had was …

Finished up the 944 S2 cab the other day, now it is off to be detailed. Removing the belt tension using special tool P-blah blah blah. Old belts off. New belt on. People usually get stumped removing the crank pulley with basic tools.  This needs to be removed so you can get the timing belt on/off.  The bolt is torqued to 155ft/lbs so you aren’t going to get it with a little wrench.  Here is my removal tool, and the …
