After hitting town Saturday night, I picked up the GT3 Sunday morning and got to work. We are installing the GMG rollbar, Schroth Harnesses (Hans), Escort 9500ci Radar/Laser Detector/Shifters, and aluminum pedals. Found a couple of interesting things as I took the car apart. Keep in mind this is a fresh off the boat new GT3, so it has never been touched before. Front sidemarker light is pinched in the bumper from when the bumper was installed. Notice the bundle …

996 Cab Repair

A few posts ago I had talked about a convertible top problem on a 996. There were 2 issues, the first being the latch mechanism that kept running in circles, and then the passenger side flap was slightly out of time with everything else, cause it to hang up slightly when the top was opened. I finally got the latch trim piece in so repair was underway. The new piece.  The tip has to operate the microswitch, if it is …

Finally got around to installing the GMG headers and center muffler section on the GT3RS. Overall differences in weights were minimal. The OE headers/cats were sighly lighter than the GMG headers and the GMG center section was lighter than the OE center section slightly.  The sound at idle is slightly louder, but very civil.  The sound at 4500rpms when the valves open on the stock mufflers, is incredible!  Getting started:  We also have a set of quad laser intercepters to …

GMG exhaust arrived today for the RS, so next week we should start the install on that. Also swapped over the traqmate into the RS from the 997TT. Went with a little more direct install route this time for simplicity of wiring. Basic setup is the same, though I mounted the camera to the rollbar this time to see how that works.

Well looks like a good freind of mine is shipping off his 993C4S to it’s new home.  Sad to see a car leave the area, but on to bigger things.  A few items ended up not in the deal, so while he is out of town, I will swap out a few things and get the car ready to ship out……hey wait a second….i see what is happening here…… Up on stands.  Old wheels are coming off and the stock …

We tackled the rollbar yesterday in the RS.  It was hot, damn hot, even in the garage.  Got it knocked out by about 7 or so.  Spent more money mid install when we decided the car needed a new exhaust……. There is nothing more fun than taking a brand new $150k car with 600 miles on it and disassembling it….. Massaging the carpet out of the side panels to modify the plastic housings under the carpet. Fitting the bar.  Did …

New project car

Got a call last Friday from good friend to come up with him to test drive and take delivery of a new 2011 GT3RS from the local dealer.  Spent some time with the car on the road, and it is absolutely amazing.  Now time for some mods!  We will get a GMG RSR Rollbar ordered asap along with a set of harnesses.  Also will be doing a Laser Intercepter Quad install along with a Valentine 1.  It doesn’t get any …

Brought in a buddy’s 993 tonight to fix a rear wheel bearing that was making some noise. Brake caliper and rotor off.  Axle nut removed.  Getting the axle out is the tricky part as the inboard end hits both the subframe and the transaxle….. Outer hub off, and the outer section of bearing in pieces. Hard to tell by the blurry picture, but the outer race is pretty chewed up. Old bearing completely removed. Pressing the new bearing in place.  …

One problem that is popping up in the 996/986 owners is the display unit on the climate controls going bad.  Sometimes parts of the numbers do not illuminate/burn out, or you get a half moon or bleeding of the  LCD screen.  The solution use to be replace the control unit which ran about $350 plus install.  There is now a cheaper solution of just replacing the LCD screen.  This boxster had an issue with part of the numbers (temperature) not …

Finished up the alternator change in the 911 targa the other day.  Voltage output dropped to about 14.2 which is more acceptable.  Still want to clean some grounds before sending it on it’s way. Removal is a bit tricky….. Out of the car. Removing the shroud. Removing the fan Bunch of crap came out of the inside….. And going back in 🙂
