Porsche 996TT P1109

Had this little 996TT come into the shop this week for a P1109 code. The local dealer charged the owner $200 to diagnose it, telling him the code was a mass air flow sensor issue and due to the aftermarket EvoMS intake…they removed the sensor and cleaned it with no help. Recommendation was $1500 worth of OEM airbox and new maf sensor, not covered by the $4000 warranty that he bought with the car. The problem is…..a P1109 code is related to airflow, but is not really a code specific to a bad sensor. It is almost always due to a boost leak in these TT’s.

Aftermarket Evo intake and Hitachi Maf…..NOT THE PROBLEM.

But the most common source of a boost leak in a 996TT, the F hose, which has a giant tear in it, definitely would be the problem. How they could pull the maf sensor and not see the tear is beyond me. It is sad when our local dealer sends out mail promo items telling people how they should never let anyone but a factory technician work on their car. HA!

And the new F hose ready to go in!

Pulling things apart. Lots of spring clamps to deal with, but doable with the right tools. $185 later the problem was fixed and out the door!

Amazing! Makes you never want to take your car to the dealer… Nobody thinks about a problem anymore (aside from people like you of course). They just read the computer and whatever it says must be the only possibility.

Would be nice to make a list of all the codes that can be triggered by a boost leak on a TT 😉

Unfortunately, this issue is not exclusive to the dealer in Kansas City. I found similar problems with the dealer here in Evansville. Wrench on!
