Work continues on with our Project 996. The list kind of keeps growing on this car. New parts arrived and waiting for install. With the tranny out, I replaced the OAS since access is as good as it will get. New IMS bearing in place along with RMS. Measuring bolt length for the new lightweight flywheel. And the lightweight flywheel in place. And the clutch disc. Since the tranny is now back from Gbox for it’s rebuild, I will put …

A major issue with the twin turbo since 996, and GT3 since 996 have been the coolant pipes coming apart and resulting in a massive loss of coolant all over the engine and the road behind you. Many clubs have no outlawed these cars on the race track if the pipes have not been repaired. The factory took a metal housing, and GLUED in the water hose connection fitting. Had this Cayenne come in the other day for a pesky oil leak and some hatch struts. The owner had seen a puddle of oil on the floor, cleaned it up, then it leaked no more. Had my buddy Mark bring in his 997 the other day for a little sound upgrade 😉 He had already done the fister/lpmm/gundo bypass mod, but wasn’t happy yet with the sound. On the watercooled motors, the bypass mod on the mufflers just doesn’t provide the deep throaty sound like it does on the 993’s. Had this little C4 in the shop this week to fix a couple of nagging oil leaks. One of them was a leaking oil line from the reservoir tank to the thermostat. A real bugger to get out actually. Then we had a nagging leak from the main oil line from the case to the reservoir. The old style line was rubber crimped, which ran right next to the hot exhaust. That doesn’t work over time. Had this 996TT in this week for an HPDE inspection and to fix a few minor issues he was having. He was having a clunk under the rear of the car at times, and a quick inspection found the captive nut on the strut to be broken loose, which was fixed quickly. The owner had done a spark plug change and was having trouble getting over .5 bar boost. He had changed the F hose and diverter valves as well, …

Plugging along as parts arrive for the 964 C4 project. Pulled the distributor so I could replace the belt. I noticed once I got the center pin out that someone has replaced the belt at some point, and miss drilled on the pin. The easy way to avoid this is to drill from each side, then pop the gear off once you have drilled past the gear body on both sides. Once that is off, then you can punch the …
