Had some time over the last couple of days to start prepping and cleaning parts for paint and powdercoating. Front forks, rear swing arm, and chain guard ready for paint. The main frame cleaned up and ready. And a bunch of chrome pieces sanded and beadblasted, ready to go to powdercoating. Front shocks disassemble easily, so those were torn down before going to paint. Hopefully I will have the new headlight bucket by the end of the week and then …

At the beginning of the winter we picked up a couple of bikes for projects.  Wes with the Chinese clone of the Ural clone of the BMW, and he also found me a Honda Trail 70 for a sweet ass pit bike. It arrived not running and in pretty rough shape. We went through the stator, wiring harnesses, coil, etc before I finally decided to do something different. The more I looked at the bike, the rougher it looked, and …

Had the tow vehicle in the shop last week for it’s big service to get ready for the season. Wouldn’t want the guys towing the chump car to break down! Oil change, transmission flush, fuel filter, rear brake pads/rotors, cabin filters, air filters, etc. This was a big service to get everything ready for the year. Some things we do a little early as annual maintenance, and others were mileage due. The fuel filter was due to be changed which …

Had this nice little 650i come into the shop for a little maintenance and a big sound improvement 🙂 Some basic stuff such as brakes, fluid flush, oil changes etc were in order and taken care of quickly. Then it was on to the exhaust. Time to get rid of this neutered system! We chose to go with Magnaflow’s full system which provides a great sound on these 650i’s! The old exhaust out. Unless you are on jackstands and can …

With a few other projects out of the way, I was able to get back on the SC project. When we brought the car back from Joplin, one of the things we wanted to fix was the interior. The dark green paint and a very deep tan interior was a bit too much of a contrast, so I got to work. We ripped out the old stereo and aftermarket AC system, and had the entire interior dynamatted, along with a …

Many people thought the leaking coolant pipe issue of the early 955 Cayennes was a thing of the past and that the newer DFI motors did not have this failure. Well, yes and no. While the pipe design has greatly changed, there is still one plastic pipe under the intake, in addition to a plastic coupler for the coolant distribution housing. Unfortunately, this coupler is known to leak due to the plastic/oring setup. Same presentation. Coolant leaks in the valley …

Here’s our buddy Jerry and his gorgeous XKR.  It came to see me because it was losing Pentosin CHF-11S from the power top mechanism.  This one button system is super cool but the lines are a problem sometimes. The pump is in the trunk. And so was the first leak.  Right at the fitting. These lines run from the pump in the right side of the trunk, up the left side A-pillar, over to the latch.  Repair means taking most …

So we decided to drop the motor and see if we could save the engine with a new IMS bearing. Since the car is a tiptronic with the glass window, it is just easier to drop the entire assembly rather than pull the tiptronic out…..and since we were throwing that crank position code, it just makes things easier in case we have to pull things apart. With the engine out, we can see that the center support stud of the …

Well, we finally got the clutch replaced and the car back on the ground. Now she heads off for paint. Then a few minor things like getting communications installed and we will be ready for the season! We tried to really concentrate on our aero this year to help propel the 140hp down the track as effortlessly as possible!

Sometimes it can be a hassle to find a shop to look at a car when purchasing from out of state, but it is very important to have a Porsche checked out before spending a lot of money on a car that potentially could have very expensive repair bills. This car came from an independent ebay dealer in Texas. Came in on transport and came to the shop immediately for service. Upon arrival the engine was noisy and it had …
