A friend of mine bought this 1973 911T this last week as a project car. It had been sitting for about 8-9 years, and the owner was finally ready to sell it. His mechanic went through the car to make sure it was driveable, they got it over here so I could take a look. We have a lot of work to do! A good solid base, but much neglected maintenance to catch up on. My plan is to knock …

It has been a week of targas lately! With two 70’s in the shop, a 993, and now a 997 targa, it has been a fun change. The 993 and newer targas are really rare, so it is cool to see them in the shop once in awhile. This one came in to have us install a set of muffler bypasses and tips that he had purchased from Fabspeed. No problem. I didn’t take many pictures of this job, but …

This is a 964 that I did a clutch job on last year. 180k+ miles are on the clock, and it had come in for a routine valve adjustment. Unfortunately when I pulled the lower valve covers, I found 3 broken head studs! Not good, and it really put us in a pickle. The owner is in love with the car and drives the heck out of it. A full engine rebuild soup to nuts was going to run about …

Had this 964 C2 come in for some electrical issues (alternator) and a few other minor things that we have seen before. What I haven’t blogged about before are the shift tube bushings in the tunnel that can fail. I’m not sure how he was able to shift this car as the shift knob was all over the place. Up in the air to remove the center tunnel belly pan. With the tunnel pan removed, we can see the issue. …

We have been so full at the shop lately, that a few projects have followed me home. This 996 was in for basic oil change, etc, along with needing a window drop issue fixed on the passenger side. It was wiggling a little, but not dropping the full 1/4″ when opening the door. Since this car is a 16k mile car, and did not have a magnetic drain plug installed yet, I cut the filter open to make sure there …

Have a little 964 project in the shop right now for a few things. Should be a fun little project. Getting this car ready for a long trip overseas. Time to get to work 😉 It is always fun pulling things apart. Off comes the exhaust and rear bumper. To get ready for a few new things. Fabspeed exhaust, custom dual outlet rear bumper, billet lower valve covers, spark plug wires, plugs, etc. A pile of old plug wires, and …

Had this little 2.7L come into the shop this week for some serious running issues. The car would fall on it’s face around 3-4k rpms, bucking like a wild horse. It had been a few other places without much luck in repair, so I got to take a stab at it. The old CIS cars are very tricky to work on if you aren’t familiar with them. I know my way around them fairly decently, but am always still learning …

You’ve seen this 965 before, such a nice car. The new owner brought it in to catch up on a few maintenance items that had been neglected by previous owners 😉 With 15k miles on the clock, he wanted to make sure he started with new fluids all around. Brake fluid, oil change, gear oil, and power steering were all flushed. Flushing out the brake system. The 964 has a lot of little compartments in the same reservoir, so you …

We have been trying to nail down a bunch of leaks on this little 964. Each items makes it a little better, but the valve covers just wouldn’t seal up correctly. Pretty common for the lower valve covers on 911’s to warp, and replacement gaskets won’t do any good as the covers are no longer true. Years ago, we developed a solution to this problem in the form of aluminum valve covers. After pulling the exhaust, you have access to …

Had this 996 come into the shop this week for a power steering pump replacement. It is a pretty straight forward job, but there are a few things that can fight you a little, including the rear power steering line. 180k miles 🙂 Another issue….notice the left exhaust tip. Engine mounts are shot and sagging, so I will replace those as well. Buried on the motor is the power steering pump. Not impossible to remove, but time consuming. AC compressor …
