Boxster Door Handle Repair

This is one I haven’t seen before actually. Customer came through with the complaint that the outer door handle wouldn’t open the door and felt crunchy. Typically we see the window drop issues or lack there of, but never a jammed door handle. I was eager to figure this one out.

Once I got into the interior of the door, I immediately saw the issue. There is a retaining pin that attaches the door handle to an intermediate arm that attaches to the door latch mechanism. The pin was missing….actually it wasn’t missing, but pushed out to one side and preventing the door handle from pivoting upwards. Figuring out the issue was the easy part. Fixing it on the other hand is a tedious bugger. See the picture below….the picture that shows a seemingly large hole to get to the handle…..yeah it ain’t that big. With everything jammed up, removing the door handle from the door was a bugger, but I eventually got it out. Once out, I found out the retaining clip had somehow come off the pivot pin. I had new clips, but trying to get a teeeeny tiny clip on a teeeeny tiny pin was frustrating to say the least. Eventually the stars aligned and everything clipped together like it should. Out the door he went!

Reminds me of the little roll pins holding 944 door handles together.

How about some help on the reverse. My Boxster won’t open with the inside Drivers’ door handle. Outside handle works fine. Happened today! Help! Thanks, Bruce
