So this little Audi ran great, got parked for a bit, then wouldn’t start. After some looking found that the crank sensor, knock sensor and TPS were not communicating.  Looking up from below you see: Looks like a mouse moved in under the intake. The Little guy really did some damage. Here’s some of the stuff removed: So after repairing all those wires he had eaten up and replacing a knock sensor and the crank sensor we are back on …

Another good 356 turned dirty girl. After a bunch of cleaning we are still here, so total tear down and soak is needed. better, but all that stuff came from somewhere, when we looked in the tank the rust was terrible on the inside, a little on the outside too. So the tank is cleaned and coated inside: and out: Fuel smell in the cabin is corrected by rebuilding the petcock. How to get the retaining ring out: Looks and …

This 2000 M5 is just friggin cool. V8 engine and manual trans.  Comes in with rough idle and CEL showing open circuit bank 2 vanos. Bank 2 solenoids are behind this cover. with the cover off we can see the oil leaking into this housing so new “square” o-rings are installed onto the solenoids after they are pulled and open circuit found a bit back That takes care of that, this weekend I’ll install another solenoid in line with the oil …

Had to drop the pan and rear crank bearing to do this rear main seal, and look what came in the kit: Maybe I am late to the party but this was my first time seeing these.  Screw em in, pop the pan gasket over, then slide the pan up and everything is in place.  Put in the other bolts, unscrew these, pop in last 4 bolts and you are done. wish those came in every kit!

So a customer brings us this perfect little 356 driver.  Very clean, all there, just the right amount of patina. Seems a tune-up is in order and a re-jet for 2012’s version of RFG is needed. first thing is to get these babies clean, if you are in Kansas City and are looking for a shop that knows Weber carburetors, stop and see us. Yuck.  Where is all that coming from? Of course when we pulled the sock and scoped the …

Mazda Tribute..CEL

So one of our great Porsche customers bought his son this little Mazda a while back.  Lately is has a stumble off idle and a CEL.  Code shows a failure of bank 2 primary coil.  Only trouble is that this is a v6 COP car, so there are 3 coils on that bank.  After some searching we find a break inside the insulation of one of the wires just beyond the ECU connector. After cutting back the insulation to reveal …

My biggest pet peeve when doing carbs is trying to do them quick, cheap, and fast.  We are doing these right.  First thing is we must have the jets to tune with.  The screws are for tweaks, not major changes.  You need a healthy motor.  Valves must be set. Timing/dwell must be set. Linkages were a mess here, bent with boogered threads.  Obviously linkage had been binding.  Your leg will be much stronger than these little rods so check for …

Being european car guys we usually get to work with a couple Weber IDFs or DCOEs.  A shop we work with quite a bit did an old-school Weber install in a very well done Cobra replica.  This gave me a chance to set up a 4 Weber IDA intake.  This is essentially 8 single downdrafts with each set of two sharing a bowl. Those eight stacks look so cool under the hood. This actually came out of the box close.  Being IDAs there isn’t …

If you have been following this Audi’s progress I am proud to announce she is up and running.  Kris has a lot of loose ends to tie up but she starts, steers, and stops.  He already has new wheels/tires on and a trip to the alignment shop knocked out. Can’t wait to run with it at HPT!  btw- Nice new trailer Kris.

Signs of spring:

Cold and rainy Sunday but I look out into the shop and see this: Convertibles and cabrios everywhere!  Awesome!
