I finally got around to removing the Escort ZR3 laser shifters from the Dragon when I had it home. I will be installing these in the M as it will be the one seeing street time. Friday night I started the job. It is amazing how much time you can burn installing the built in units, lol.  Radar and laser detection is covered with the V1.  Started with the rear. Ran the wire from the license plate area, inside the …

Decided with the weather getting cold that I had better get the dragon back together after the headgasket blew.  Drove out to the storage unit and picked it up (ran into a customer from IA that I had not seen in a long time, so I stopped to help him on the side of the road as well, lol) Got it home and up on the lift. Turns out one of the fans had died in the 100 degree heat …

Battery Time

Started getting some slow cranking in the mornings from Mini Moo my 2500HD, so it was time for a new battery. Battery was the original Delco battery, which was over 8 years old, so it was time for replacement. Typically batteries will last 7-9 years if you are driving your car daily. Batteries do not like to sit idle, which is usually the cause of death. If you are driving your car 1-2 times a week, expect maximum battery life …

928 Finished

Got some time (and the parts came in) to finish the 928 project. 2 caps and rotors, a correct fuel filter, and the TPS replacement harness from Roger. Got everything up and running, now I think this car just needs a fresh tank of gas, some techron to clean the fuel system, and a bunch of road time. Replacing the caps and rotors. Pretty well shot. And the replacement TPS harness. This is a bit of a bear to get …

Damn Jeeps, lol. My last bit of winter maintenance was to flush the cooling system and get fresh fluid installed. I was still debating whether I should go in and replace the 140k mile waterpump, but hadn’t made up my mind. When we got back from South Dakota, I noticed a drip under the jeep. Crap. Decided to do the entire cooling system with the exception of the radiator as that has to come out the front of the car. …

Finished up the Laser Interceptor install today. Some comparison notes to the Escort 9500ci: 1. Obviously it is for laser shifting only, there is no radar detection like the 9500ci 2. I would call the technology similar to that of my 1980 Apple IIE that I had growing up. The voice prompts are absolutely hillarious. Seriously, I remember when it first came out that you could type a sentance into a computer and it would speak the words back to …

Well since I am in the radar/laser shifter installing mode, I figured I would borrow the GT3RS and get that done as well. I had previously installed the rear shifter when I had the bumper off to do the exhaust, but hadn’t had time to get the rest of it done. Shifter kit minus the rear shifter. I will integrate the V1 detector into the L1 for voice alerts rather than the beep. Front bumper off so I can install …

Buttoned up the car last night and got it returned to Dan.  We ran into a little snag though.  When I plugged in the control panel to bench test the unit, I found out that the volume button did not work.  There was sound out the speaker, and the unit operated correctly, I just could not change the volume or get into the preferences menu (hit vol + BRT buttons together) to turn on the shifters.  Called Escort and they sent …

After hitting town Saturday night, I picked up the GT3 Sunday morning and got to work. We are installing the GMG rollbar, Schroth Harnesses (Hans), Escort 9500ci Radar/Laser Detector/Shifters, and aluminum pedals. Found a couple of interesting things as I took the car apart. Keep in mind this is a fresh off the boat new GT3, so it has never been touched before. Front sidemarker light is pinched in the bumper from when the bumper was installed. Notice the bundle …

Because I took my annual break to go hunting up in South Dakota. The freezer was getting a bit low and needed restocking! Normally I can get up for the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas, but Val’s schedule this year hosed things up a bit, so I went a week early. Last Friday I loaded up the dog and headed north. My father and law and I hunted 7 days for deer and pheasant. Got in a …
