That’s right….chumpianship. With great finishes at BIR and HPR, Car 54 Where Are You is qualified for the Chumpianship at Road America here in a few weeks. Trying to get the car prepped to hold up for such a prestigious event isn’t easy. No one wants to haul 10 hours each way and have the car break down, so I am going the distance on making sure this thing is ready to go. One of the major issues with E36 …

One big problem with highly modified high hp GTR’s on the track are the oil/water cooling temps getting out of control. With the new motor in the car, some things were changed to help with the cooling, but the car was still getting hot. So we added a few more things hoping to get the temps down another 20 degrees or so. First we added a carbon fiber hood which is not only lighter (this pig needs all the help …

Finally seeing the end in sight for a little while anyway. With a HPDE/Club race coming up this weekend, I finally got the car corner balanced, aligned, and the rear trunk lid secured. We also had the wrap crew come out and get the car looking like a race car. Today we will load it up, head to the track for some final tuning, and then bring it back and finish the cage this winter in preparation for racing next …

We hit a crossroads with the 911T the other day. Since we were doing some paint work to get the body looking good, we decided to drop the engine out to also paint the engine bay since there had been a color change previously. But then we had this disgusting motor sitting on the table with a little low oil pressure when really hot, unknown history…..you get the picture. Poof. Magic. Out comes the engine. Yuck. Double Yuck. Triple Yuck. …

Finally got a couple big boxes of fun in the mail today 🙂 Mmmmm suspension parts 🙂 Swift 450/500 rate springs for our PSS9’s, bigger sway bars, custom drop links, adjustable GT3 control arms, and exhaust. Hard to believe so much money in such a small amount of parts, but they are going to be what really transforms the handling of the car 🙂 So apart it comes. Since I had not done the front driver wheel bearing, this was …

Making a little more progress on odds and ends things while I wait for the suspension and exhaust to show up. A lot of these parts were available to purchase through various sources in the past, but for some reason many companies are no longer making SPEC boxster parts, so I had to make a few things myself. No big deal and fun to build, but with our labor rate, in the end it is usually cheaper to buy small …

Well, this is kind of part 2 and 3 since we have already done some work, tested the car at Hallett, and moved on to the next stage: First thing we had to do was to catch up on some maintenance and get the car trackable in order to test what we had. First thing to do was to flush all the coolant out, change the waterpump and switch to a low temp thermostat. Next we needed to replace the …
